Hazwoper 40-Hour

Course Description:

This course is designed for employees who may be exposed to hazardous substances or health hazards while performing hazardous waste operations covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120.

Topics include hazard and risk assessment, chemical and physical hazards, toxicology concepts, site characterization, site safety and health plans, PPE selection and use, respiratory protection, air monitoring, medical surveillance, control, containment and confinement operations, decontamination procedures, incident command, emergency response planning, applicable DOT requirements, and site/work termination procedures.

Learning Outcomes:

• Students will recognize and evaluate chemical, physical, and environmental hazards associated with hazardous waste operations and select appropriate methods for controlling exposure
• Students will demonstrate appropriate use of PPE, respiratory protection, air-monitoring concepts, decontamination procedures, site-control measures, and emergency-response practices

Attendance is mandatory for the entire course to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Students should be prepared to participate in hands-on exercises involving PPE, respiratory protection, decontamination, hazard assessment, and other HAZWOPER activities.
