Class III Wastewater

Course Description:

This course is designed to prepare Class II Wastewater Operators for the Arkansas Energy and Environment, Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Class II Wastewater exam.

Topics covered include sludge handling, wastewater digestion, enhanced nutrient removal, lab practices, odor control, and management and administration.

This course meets the training requirements required by the Arkansas Energy and Environment, Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) outlined in Chapter 3 of 8 CAR 22 (Rule 3) for the licensing of Wastewater Operators in the state of Arkansas.

Learning Outcomes:

• At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to:
• Describe the requirements necessary for properly managing a municipal wastewater facility.
• Correctly identify sampling procedures, preservation methods, and holding times for common NPDES parameters and 40 CFR 503 regulations.
• Describe operational control procedures for sludge dewatering, volume reduction and land application of biosolids.
• Describe the processes for nutrient (phosphorus and nitrogen) removal.
• Satisfactorily solve math problems relating to the process controls to properly operate activated sludge and chemical applications at the wastewater treatment plant.   

Must Know:

Students must attend the entire course to receive a Certificate of completion.

Prerequisite:
1. Hold a Class II or equivalent license
2. Satisfactory completion of a total of one hundred twenty (120) hours of approved training or equivalent or substitute training as determined or defined by the committee
3. Completion of a total of three (3) years of experience in wastewater treatment or related field, provided that at least one (1) year shall have been in wastewater treatment plant operation
4. Satisfactory completion of a Class III examination
5. Have satisfactorily carried out the responsibilities of a Class II operator

To be eligible to take a Wastewater Exam, you must submit your application and pay the required fees to the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment (DEQ) Wastewater Licensing at least 5 business days before the exam date through the SEEK online portal.
