Class I Wastewater

Course Description:

This course is designed to prepare entry level Wastewater Operators for the Arkansas Energy and Environment, Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Class II Wastewater Licensing exam.

Topics covered include flow measurement, preliminary treatment, primary treatment, secondary treatment, disinfection and basic wastewater math.

This course meets the training requirements required by the Arkansas Energy and Environment, Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) outlined in Chapter 3 of 8 CAR 22 (Rule 3) for the licensing of Wastewater Operators in the state of Arkansas.

Learning Outcomes:

• Students will describe the importance of the wastewater treatment operator in protecting public health and the aquatic environment.
• Students will identify various types of wastewater treatment systems.
• Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, such as mechanical treatment, preliminary treatment, secondary treatment and disinfection processes.
• Students will identify the requirements of a wastewater treatment operator as defined by 8 CAR 22 (Rule 3).
• Students will solve basic wastewater mathematic problems, such as, conversions, area, volume, BOD5, pounds, and detention time problems.
  

Must Know:

Students must attend the entire course to receive a Certificate of completion.

Prerequisite:
1. High school graduate, GED, or equivalent
2. Satisfactory completion of forty (40) hours of approved training or equivalent or substitute training as determined or defined by the Wastewater Licensing Committee

To be eligible to take a Wastewater Exam, you must submit your application and pay the required fees to the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment (DEQ) Wastewater Licensing at least 5 business days before the exam date through the SEEK online portal.
